GRACE CODDINGTON

This is an absolutely remarkable woman. But if you don't know who she is, you probably think that she is just another old, tired, wrinkly face:

Like you care, right? This is Grace Coddington. She is the Creative Director of U.S VOGUE, and I recently discovered her story after (finally) watching The September Issue. If you haven't seen it, and you're intered in the fashion world, you must. Grace is an almost 70 year old woman, who has an honest and true passion for fashion.

Grace grew up in a town in Wales where they didn't have fashion. She used to order "rushed" copies of VOGUE that took almost three months to get to her. And she would spend her time reading them, looking at the photos, admiring the fashion. Everything in the magazine was so different from her lifestyle. A friend submitted her photos to a later VOGUE model competition, and Grace won the "Young" sector - and became a model for VOGUE. She later moved to London to model full time.

When Grace was 26 she was involved in a tragic car accident, and was put through years of plastic reconstrictive surgery to her face. Her modeling days were unevidebly over. Two years after the accident, Grace was offered the postition of Junior Editor at British VOGUE, and later joined Anna Wintour at U.S VOGUE, and is today described by Anna Wintour, Vera Wang, Karl Lagerfeld and many more as the greatest stylist in the world.

Her story touched my heart when I was watching The September issue, and I think a story like Grace's makes the fashion world much more real and honest. The world of fashion is so often percieved as fake, superficial, shallow. But it's when I see people like Grace working with such passion and fire with some of the greatest designers and most influential people in the WORLD that I feel my spark for this world come alive again, and makes me want to persue MY dreams. I truly respect this woman, and to put it lightly - LOVE her work.

i LOVE Grace Coddington! I kind of became obsessed with her too after watching The September Issue. She is such a genius but I wish Anna would listen to her more - i felt sad for her in the movie.
